Over 40 Group Training Vancouver Training That Respects Where Your Body Is Now
After 40, your body does not recover the way it used to. Joints take longer to warm up. Injuries that used to heal in a week now linger for months. And the workouts that worked in your 20s and 30s are more likely to cause damage than build strength.
Over 40 group training at TSquared Personal Training in downtown Vancouver is built around that reality. Troy Tyrell has spent over 20 years working with adults over 40. He understands how recovery changes, how hormones affect training, and how to build real strength without the joint stress that comes with conventional gym programs.
Sessions run with a maximum of 5 people at 180 W Georgia Street, inside the Sandman Hotel. If you are over 40 and tired of programs designed for 25-year-olds, this is the alternative.
Why Training After 40 Requires a Different Approach
The body after 40 is not broken. It is different. Recovery takes longer. Connective tissue is less resilient. Muscle mass declines if not actively maintained. Bone density decreases, especially in women approaching or past menopause. These are not problems to work around. They are the reasons to train.
But training has to match the body you have now, not the one you had 15 years ago. Troy programs every session around these realities. The Gravity Training System is the foundation because it builds strength without loading joints with heavy weights. Resistance comes from your own body weight and gravity, and it adjusts in seconds.
As reported by The New York Times, research consistently shows that structured exercise in midlife and beyond significantly reduces the risk of chronic disease, cognitive decline, and functional disability—but the type and intensity of that exercise matters as much as the frequency.
Who Over 40 Group Training Is For
This program works well for:
- Adults in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who want training designed for their body
- People with joint concerns, old injuries, or chronic stiffness

- Anyone who has tried conventional gyms and found the programs too aggressive
- People who want the energy of a group without being lost in a crowd
If you are a woman looking for a dedicated training environment, the women’s group training in Vancouver page explains that option in detail.
The Gravity Training System for Adults Over 40
The Gravity Training System was originally designed for rehabilitation. Troy has adapted it for strength training that respects the limitations of adult bodies while still pushing them forward. It is low-impact, compound, and adjustable enough that a 45-year-old desk worker and a 65-year-old with a hip replacement can train in the same session.
TSquared is the only studio in downtown Vancouver using this system for every session. It is what makes over 40 group training here fundamentally different from anything else available in the city.
What a Session Looks Like
Movement Prep (8-10 minutes)
Joint-specific mobility targeting the areas most affected by aging: hips, thoracic spine, shoulders. This is preparation, not stretching for its own sake.
Strength Work (25-35 minutes)
Programmed exercises on the Gravity Training System. Resistance adjusted individually. Emphasis on functional movements that translate to real life: squatting, pulling, pushing, stabilizing.
Cool-Down (5-10 minutes)
Targeted recovery work. Proper cool-down is part of the training process, not an afterthought.
Total session time: 45-60 minutes. 5-Session Guarantee included.

Troy’s 20 years of experience with this demographic means he has seen every variation of the over-40 body. Bad knees, replaced hips, disc problems, frozen shoulders, arthritis. He does not guess. He programs based on what he has seen work thousands of times, and he adjusts in real time when something is not right.
The improvements clients report are practical. Getting out of bed without stiffness. Carrying groceries without their back seizing up. Playing with grandchildren without needing to recover for two days. These are the outcomes that matter at this stage of life. They come from consistent, progressive training that respects the body’s limits while still pushing it forward.
What Troy sees consistently with clients over 40 is that the first few weeks are about trust. Trust that the exercises will not make things worse. Trust that the trainer actually understands their body. Trust that showing up consistently will produce results. The small group format accelerates that trust because Troy is right there, every session, watching and adjusting.
Frequently Asked Questions
About Over 40 Group Training
Is this only for people over 40?
The program is designed for adults over 40, but Troy does not check IDs. If you are in your late 30s and want age-appropriate, coached training, you are welcome.
I have not trained in years. Can I start here?
Yes. Most of Troy’s clients started from that exact point. The Gravity Training System adjusts to any fitness level. Troy assesses you first and builds from where you are.
How is this different from a regular gym class?
Size and specificity. Regular classes have 15 to 25 people with generic programming. TSquared caps at 5 with programming designed for adult bodies.
Will this help with joint pain?
In most cases, yes. The Gravity System is low-impact and Troy builds programs around joint limitations. Many clients report reduced pain and improved mobility within the first few weeks.
How often should I train?
Two to three sessions per week for consistent results. Most clients feel improvements in energy and mobility within 2 to 3 weeks.
